A tribute to Carl
Carl Comer had a dream, to build a place that people could come, relax, have a meal, their favorite beverage and share a laugh with friends. In September of 2001 he fulfilled his dream with the opening of the Runaway Inn. He was never a guy to let obstacles get in the way of his vision. Hard work and determination were his motto. Carl was a man that truly loved people. He had a great many friends and everybody that came to the Runaway Inn soon became his friend.
Carl passed away on September 29, 2010, at the age of 65. He was born Feb. 2, 1945, to Donald Douglas and Helen Caroline (Rehnberg) Comer in Imperial, Neb. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Gale Comer; and brother, David Laverne Comer. He is survived by Barb his wife and partner of forty years, his two great children Terry and his “god damn” son-in law Troy, Tad and his wife Mary, four beautiful grandchildren that were the apple of his eye, Meagan and Shelby Pepper and Olivia and Emma Comer. His sister and her husband, Dee and Jerry Carpenter; brother, Ken; sister, Karen Schludt and Richard Schludt ; nephew, Stephen and Diane Comer.
Carl enjoyed flying, his hunting club, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. He never let a day go by without taking time to smile and laugh and make sure he made someone else smile and laugh with him. We were all blessed by the time he shared with us and will miss him greatly.
